Everything people ask before they buy.
Grouped roughly in the order the doubts arrive: whether it is really handmade, what happens in transit, and what happens if you change your mind.
The pieces
Is this actually handmade, or assembled from imported parts?
Handmade, start to finish, in one region. Teak root is cut and sanded in Blitar; rattan is split, soaked and woven there; ceramic is thrown and fired there. Nothing is bought finished and relabelled. When a piece involves two workshops — for example a turned base and a woven shade — the product page names both.
How different will my piece be from the photo?
Noticeably, in a good way. Root wood has grain, knots and colour shifts, and every root is a different shape. We photograph one piece from the batch and describe the range in millimetres. If you need a specific shape or tone, write to us before ordering and we will send photos of what is in stock.
Why are sizes given as a range?
Because they are not identical. A hand-cut root cannot be made to 480 mm exactly without throwing away the part that makes it interesting. Ranges keep us honest and stop you from ordering a shelf that turns out to be two centimetres too tall.
Shipping
Where do you ship from, and how long does it take?
From Blitar, East Java, Indonesia. Shipping is free worldwide with no minimum order. Delivery times vary by destination and customs; the full breakdown is on the shipping policy page.
What happens if it arrives broken?
We replace it or refund it in full. Contact us within 7 days of delivery with your order number and photos of the piece and its packaging. Return shipping for a damaged or wrong item is on us.
Do I pay customs duty?
US orders: no. Import duties and taxes are covered by us and already built into the price, so nothing is collected at delivery. Canada, the UK, the EU, New Zealand and other destinations are shipped DDU — your country may charge duty or VAT on arrival, and that is not refundable by us. Australia: no duty applies under A$1,000.
Returns
Can I return a piece I do not like?
Within 30 days of delivery, in resalable condition. Return shipping is paid by you and original shipping is not refunded. Made-to-order pieces and items marked Final Sale are excluded — that is stated on the product page.
Do you accept trade and interior design orders?
Yes. Send your project details through the contact page and ask for the trade sheet: tiered pricing, sample boxes and lead times for multiple units.
Care
How do I look after root wood?
Keep it out of standing water and direct sun, dust with a dry cloth, and re-oil every 12–18 months with a food-safe wood oil. Hairline cracks along the grain are normal as humidity changes and close again in the wet season.
Can rattan and macramé go outside?
Covered outdoor areas are fine; direct rain and long sun exposure are not. Rattan dries and darkens, cotton cord stretches — both are natural behaviour, not faults.
